ALEXANDER SCHLEICHER SEGELFLUGZEUGBAU:
PIONEERS OF THE GLIDER INDUSTRY

For over 65 years ALEXANDER SCHLEICHER (AS) has set exacting standards for building sailplanes. Over 8600 SCHLEICHER sailplanes flying in Germany and throughout the world bear convincing testimony to their expertise as designers and manufacturers.

Founded in 1925, they are the oldest Sailplane manufacturer in the world and the largest of the German sailplane builders, both in production capacity and number of employees. SCHLEICHER is the only manufacturer to span the entire breadth of the Sailplane market, starting with single and double seat trainers and following through all four classes, with top designs in every category (Training, Standard, 15 meter, 18meter, and open class).

SCHLEICHER sailplanes rank among the best of the world. The many top places which they achieved in international competitions, prove this impressively:

First place in the last four World Championships 1987, 1989, 1991, and 1993 in the Open Class;

First place in the European Championships Standard Class 1991 and 1992, and lst place in the French Championships 1992, 1993 and 1994 in the 15 m Class;

Standard Class Champions from the USA, Australia, and Austria have flown SCHLEICHER sailplanes.

The international 18m Championships winners were SCHLEICHER sailplanes.

The philosophy of SCHLEICHER is not only to make the fastest racers but the best ships in general. AS is willing to add many features beyond those contributing to race scores. Gerhard Waibel once said "I learned with the ASW-12 that all ships become used someday. they must be good gliders as well as fast gliders. A good glider will maintain value as it becomes old"

SCHLEICHER sailplanes are as fast or faster than the competition, but also have better active and passive safety, better landing ability, better wheel brakes, better pilot protection, better factory sealing, larger main wheels, and better "fit and finish" The experience and creative ingenuity of SCHLEICHER's design engineers, as well as their contacts to research institutes and universities are a guarantee that pilots will always enjoy the maximum possible standards of safety and performance.
